MAY 2026
Four weeks of author events for you! This month we have two more of our fantasy authors speaking about their new books… DOUGLAS E. RICHARDS will be here on May 2 with his book SPLIT SECOND. If you missed a good visit with BLAKE ARTHUR PEEL in April, he’ll be back in convo with ANDREW GIVLER on May 16 with his book, COLD WIND.
Also this month we have LAUREN OPPER with her debut book, LET NOTHING ASTONISH YOU on MAY 9. Rounding up the month on May 30, we have JENNIFER CHOW with TELL-TALE TREATS.
MICHAEL CONNELLY has a new book coming out: IRONWOOD, the second book in his Catalina series, available in May. We will have signed copies available. Please pre-order below under Book News.
CRAIG JOHNSON won’t be on the west coast again this year, unfortunately, but we will have copies of his new book, THE BROTHERS McKAY, available in May. Craig will be here at Book Carnival in November with his book of short stories and will sign The Brothers McKay at that time. Please pre-order below under Book News.

SPLIT SECOND
$30.00Add to cart
What if you found a way to send something back in time? But not weeks, days, or even minutes back. What if you could only send something back a fraction of a second? Would this be of any use? You wouldn’t have nearly enough time to right a wrong, change an event, or win a lottery.
Nathan Wexler is a brilliant physicist who thinks he’s found a way to send matter a split second back into the past. But before he can even confirm his findings, he and his wife-to-be, Jenna Morrison, find themselves in a battle for their very lives. Because while time travel to an instant earlier seems useless, Jenna comes to learn that no capability in history has ever been more profound or far-reaching.

Lieutenant Carl Sarabia, a newly retired homicide detective, moves with his wife Greta from Houston, Texas to Glamis, Connecticut to be closer to their daughter Sarah and her family. The idyllic river town is upended when Merlin Glenmore is found murdered on April Fools’ Day, midway through his seance-themed birthday party at the place he despised the most, The Glenmore-Pace Castle, a gothic mansion built by his great-great grandfather, and now a museum run by his sister Jade. Merlin is notorious in Glamis for his abrupt second marriage to a much younger woman only a month after his first wife’s tragic death.
There is no shortage of suspects present at the party who wanted Merlin dead. Only two of the guests do not have alibis-and one of them is Carl’s son-in-law. Carl swore to Greta he wouldn’t involve himself in any more homicide cases, but will he be able to stay out of this one? Meanwhile, Greta conspires with her daughter and in-laws to involve Carl in solving the murder without his knowledge.

Lost and forgotten, Castor is a prisoner of the very Iron Empire he once served.
Thought of as a common criminal, Castor guards his dangerous secret—that he has bound a second Symbol—with his life. If the Censors knew, they’d execute him on the spot.
There is only one path to freedom and avenging his family. He must earn it no longer as a member of the Iron Legions, but by spilling blood for one of the great Houses. The dead gods stir in their rotting slumber. Dangerous enemies stalk his new master. Surrounded on all sides, Castor must learn the secrets of his Cor Heart and reach new heights of power before it is too late.
And in the wake of his Ascent comes the first sign of change – A COLD WIND.

Boyfriend, Kelvin Love, is eager to assist, although odd things have been happening to his senses ever since he baked with Felicity. Will his extra sensitivity help or hinder the investigation?
